About Us

Vertex Photographic was started in 2002 by John Stanford. Like most photographers, I have been doing photography almost all my life. After returning from Viet Nam and finishing college I started a commercial skydiving center in Virginia. Skydiving has been my other passion throughout my life; my wife Sara and I just retired from the sport. After selling the skydiving center I started the Adventure Loft, a parachute manufacturing business. In 1985 my friend Pete McKeeman and I founded the Vested Interest with the goal of designing and manufacturing photographer's vests. In 2000 I sold the Adventure Loft and Vested Interest to my friend John Storrie. These businesses are still up and running with products available. Also in 1985 along with my good friend Phil Huff, we started a company called UpSki. Phil and I designed parachute/sailing type devices to pull skiers uphill and cross country. For a look at some great images check out the website. I knew that I wanted to take my photography to a new level, and being an old guy (62), I intend to get on with it. With Vertex Photographic I can concentrate on photography. I am also interested in designing and manufacturing some photography products. I enjoy all types of photography. Looking through the viewfinder, or looking on the ground glass is extremely exciting to me. Each time presents an opportunity to create something exciting. I work with Nikon, Canon 35mm, Pentax 645 and KB Canham 5x7. I recently received the new 6cmx17cm roll film panoramic back made by Keith Canham to be used on his 5x7 camera. I am new at Photoshop but realize what an incredible creative tool it is, and am determined to eventually become an expert in its use. |
